The world's first rockumentary music podcast, launched the same year “podcast” became a word, and featured by Apple. Athcast produced first music podcasts for hundreds of artists and management companies and attracted an audience of over 100,000 listeners from around the world — professional concert recordings distributed before the medium had a name for what it was doing.
Alongside it, The Athens Recording Company (2005–2009) recorded and produced digital music products for over 300 artists, including Grammy Award winners — the recording infrastructure of the Athens scene that fed the podcast.
To grasp it as a work rather than a business, look at the timing: Athcast treated a distribution channel that did not yet have a name as an artistic medium, the way earlier artists claimed radio or video the moment each became available. The artwork is the recognition — that a new channel had opened, and that the Athens music scene could be carried through it to the world before anyone else thought to try.
